Pastors! please leave Cats alone!

I was a little boy when I saw a group of people standing around a dead cat (apparently killed by them) and are making some “Christian” incantations (speaking-in-tongues). I went close to know why. I learned from their conversation that the black cat always goes to the roof of the house of one of the persons standing there, at night. He said that anytime the cat was around, someone always falls sick in the house. He said his Pastor said the cat was a witch that transformed into a cat to bewitch them.

I asked a question, why hasn’t the cat transformed back to the woman after they killed it? They all considered me a little boy without any knowledge of what happens in the spirit world and quickly dismissed my question. As a little child I loved cats, even black ones, but it seemed like everyone around me would stone any cat at first sight (because they are witches).

We attended a Pentecostal church with my mum and the pastor always talked about witches and cats as if they were one and the same entity. First of all, I don’t know what witches look like except the ones I watch on TV. The question I asked myself is:

“Why won’t the film makers bring a real witch to transform into a cat? Why do they have to use film tricks to show us? Which means they may not even exist”.

I am a veterinary doctor now and the cases I see on the injuries these cats go home with from stoning are annoying. Sometimes they don’t even get home because they are sometimes killed and burnt in the name of religious belief. These animals lose their legs, tails and sometimes their eyes because someone’s Pastor told him that a cat possessed by a witch was used to torment him. How can I convince these people that these cats are innocent? Will I be implying that these Pastors are liars?

These animals are suffering and they don’t deserve the treatment they are being given by some radical Christians. THESE CATS ARE NOT WITCHES; THEY ARE ANIMALS CREATED BY GOD JUST LIKE US!!!
