How your dog can help you lose weight

On my way to the tennis court every Saturday, I always don’t fail to admire the events along the road, people of various sizes working out either in groups or solo. I see some coaches demonstrating in a choreography while their trainees follow in a repeat fashion, sometimes with loud music and sometimes without music. Another striking thing I see is how fat some people have actually become that they can hardly breathe well during those workout sessions.

The truth is that working out to lose weight cannot happen in one weekend or only on a Saturday, it should be a lifestyle that keeps someone in a particular shape. As for me I have tendency to be fat at the very wrong places so I have a lifelong plan of activities I must do every week to keep in shape.

Taking an evening walk was one of my favorite way to lose weight. I try not to miss an evening and when I have a visitor I take the person along. On one occasion, I had a dog named “Ronke”, Ronke was on boarding with me because the owner had to travel to India for a surgery. Ronke had to join my evening walk. To my surprise he got used to it that he reminds me of the walk by going to the drawer where I keep his leash to scratch.  He keeps scratching until I bring out the leash then he starts to jump almost to my face until I clip it to his collar. He will just start heading to the door almost leaving me behind.

Ronke did this several times that I don’t miss the evening walks even when I don’t feel like. I just had to or I will get more scratches on my drawer. When Ronke eventually went back to the owner I realized the immense benefit that little hairy dog was to me. I had no one to prompt me for evening walks anymore and it made me miss that dog. I wished I never stayed with that dog.

It can be a very lonely activity to go for jogging especially when you don’t have a partner to support you. Even when you have a friend that usually does it with you, human factor always comes in where your partner either travelled or lose interest. Dogs can surprisingly replace those friends/partners with great consistency. Most dogs will be waiting all day for that time when he goes out with you for the exercise.

They might not be good walking or jogging companion at first but with repeated sessions they can become a perfect one.

I met a lady from Lebanon who told me how her dogs are both protectors and jogging companions. She told me how she saw the two little Rottweiler puppies being sold along the road and had pity on them and bought them. The puppies slept in her bedroom until they became adults and still sleeps there. She told me how she ended up dismissing her security aids during her evening workouts due to the way the dogs vehemently resists anyone to come close to her. “I was no longer afraid of kidnapers” she said proudly. According to her, she hardly miss her evening workout due to the dogs that reminds her each time. At times she delegates someone to walk with the dogs when she is too tired.

The point is that if you really want to lose weight or keep in shape but have little motivation to do so, try walking with dogs and your life will change. First of all losing weight should be a lifestyle not a chore or it might be difficult to achieve.
