Does your dog worry about something?

Owning a dog can be an exciting experience to some persons and can just be a necessity to others. This brings about a particular perception of the dog owner to the dog which could be negative or positive. It’s worthy to note that dog business is on the rise these days, due to the emerging demand for these animals both for companionship and security as it is the case in Nigeria. Dog business has made these dogs to be acquired and kept as captives exclusively for procreation. These dogs end up in a state of uncertainty of what happens to them next.

I hear news about dog aggression to their owners and handlers with pathetic stories associated to the antecedent of the action. I begin to ponder on what the dog has been going through emotionally that warranted that kind of action.

Do you think dogs worry?

Being humans we always tend to relegate other creatures to the background making them seem unemotional with zero sense of logic, but let me tell you that we are wrong to think that way. Dogs worry each day almost about everything concerning his relationship with his owner.

What is your dog worried about?

Your dog might worry about your love towards him. Although some breeds of dogs tend to be independent in their nature while some others want all the attention to themselves especially from their owner. One thing to note is that your dog does not want to lose you or allow you to get hurt and they always want to be of help however way they can or you permit them. When you ignore or pay less attention to this deep emotional desire of your dog, they might go into a state of worry in which they might end up deciding to behave badly to you or another person.

Your dog can also be worried about food. Yes, you might think that this is their main worry but I guess you are wrong because if you leave that dog to roam about, he will be feeding well from scavenging and still be loyal to you but the fact that you want him to remain dependent on you, he expects food from you and will get worried when it is not fort coming.

Your dog will be very worried if you beat him very often. Have you ever owned a dog that runs away at the sound of your feet? Some of them will hide under your car or refuse to come and greet you out rightly. Some of us try to eliminate our dog’s bad behavior by beating the dog with stick and other objects without doing it the right way. These dogs end up misunderstanding you and gets worried about your presence.

Your dog gets worried if you lock him up in a cage for too long. This is one of the biggest challenges dogs have to face in Nigeria. 60% of dogs in Nigeria are locked up in a cage for close to 18hours a day and some are locked up for the rest of their lives. These dogs end up defecating and urinating in their cages which further poses greater health challenge to the dog. Many of these dogs get too aggressive to people due to the fact that they have been socially isolated for too long and therefore lose their sense of friendliness. Many Nigerians try to make their dogs aggressive by locking them up which I greatly object to due to its health and mental implications.

Your dog might be worried about your new puppy. Hahaha! Yes! Puppies are very adorable creatures to behold. They tend to charm anybody with their playful attitudes and displays. Your old dog watches as the attention diverts from him to that new puppy and gets so worried that he can even bite and kill the new puppy in some cases for stealing the whole “show”.  Ignoring an old dog due to a new puppy can be a very dangerous thing to do so be very conscious about it.

Your dog can be worried that you don’t seem to understand him. Your dog on various occasions do things to either show you something or tell you something. For instance your dog will want to jump on you when you are long gone to express their happiness to see you again while you might see him as dirtying your cloths. The dog might be barking to show that there is an unwanted guest within your compound and you see him as disturbing your night sleep. Sometimes they get worried and stop and even completely disregard you except you have food for them.
