The Rottweiler according to American Kennel Club is a calm, confident and courageous dog with a self-assured aloofness that does not lend itself to immediate and indiscriminate friendships. A Rottweiler is self-confident and responds quietly and with a wait-and-see attitude to influences in its environment. It has an inherent desire to protect home and family, and is an intelligent dog of extreme hardness and adaptability with a strong willingness to work, making them especially suited as a companion, guardian and general all-purpose dog.

The Rottweiler has a short, thick and coarse outer-layer of the hair and a thick under-layer. The coat is always black with brown markings.

Grooming may be required while the dog is moulting otherwise grooming can be done once in a while to remove dead hairs. Keep the claws short and the ear passages clean.

The Rottweiler requires a trainer who is rather forceful especially to the males than the females which are slightly gentle in nature. A varied training program gives the best results. This breed can be rather dominant in nature and therefore require an equable calm handler who is confident and always fair.

The Rottweiler is a well built and muscular breed. The skull is of medium length, broad between the ears. The chest is roomy, broad and deep (approximately 50% of the shoulder height) with a well-developed forechest and well sprung ribs. The breed is always black with brown markings.
