Overview:

The Finnish Lapphund is a medium sized dog with abundant hair. It’s an active, very friendly, intelligent and sociable dog always willing to learn from its handler. They can alert against intruders or strangers but gentle in disposition.

The shoulder-height is 46-52cm (18-20 ½ in) for dogs and 40-46cm (15 ½ -18in) for bitches.

Temperament:

 This dog is naturally very sociable. It gets on extremely well with children and in normal circumstances can take a great deal from them. It also gets on well with other household animals and dogs.

The Finnish Lapphund is alert in the sense that it will warn your visitors but it is too gentle-natured to defend your property.


Coat:

The Finnish Lapphund has abundant coat. The outer layer is long and coarse; the undercoat is soft, thick and dense. Every color is permitted provided the main color predominates.


Care:

The wire brush used for German Shepherds is ideal to remove the loose hairs from the thick undercoat of this breed during moulting.


Training:

The Finnish Lapphund is intelligent and keen to learn and therefore makes an excellent pupil. It can compete on level terms with the best in dog sports such as fly-ball and agility skills trials.
