Breed Description


Overview:

The large Munsterlander is an ideal hunter’s companion. They also make excellent family pet as long as they get enough exercises. They are highly regarded by field sports people who will find it very reliable as a working dog. They are affectionate and loyal to their family.

Character:

These are intelligent, and affectionate dogs that are vigilant, brave, eager to work, that can be somewhat dominant. They have a good scenting nose, and bond with their family.

 

Height:

The shoulder-height is 60 – 65rcm (23 ½ - 25 ½ 2in) for dogs and 58 – 63cm (22 ½ - 24 ½ 2in) for bitches.

Temperament:

This breed has no problem whatsoever with other dogs and household animals. The majority of them are delightful and patient with children they tend to be friendly with everyone although they will act as a watchdog when necessary.

 

Coat:

The lank long-haired cot may be white with black patches and spots, but black roan is also permitted.

 

Care:

This breed needs little attentions to its coat. Groom it regularly with brush and comb and check the ear passages well to ensure they are clean. 

 

Training:

Because they are so bright and keen, these dogs are easily trained. Munsterlanders are known to be fairly dominant, requiring a handler who will take positive control.
