The Drentse Patrijshond is a dog that is bred for retrieving therefore it is an ideal field sports dog. Overtime it has also been used as a family bet because of its calm and affectionate nature. They are close friends with children.

These are attentive, intelligent, curious, and vigilant dogs, which are affectionate, gentle-natured, obedience and equable. They do not take well to life in a kennel. They normally bark only when they sense danger.
The shoulder-height is 55 â 63cm (21 Â½ - 24 Â½ 2in). Provided the dog is attractive and well-proportioned in its build, a variance of 1cm (Â½ 2in) taller or shorter will be accepted.
This breed gets on extremely well with children and does not cause any problem with other dogs or household animals. They are vigilant but badly behaved towards strangers.
The Drentse Patrijshond has a dense coat of medium-length hair. The colour are white with brown or orange patches, which can include tan marking or mottling. A brown mantle is Permissible but not preferred.
Brush them once per week and give particular attention using a special âGerman Shepherdâ comb to the part of the coat with longer hairs. The ear passage need checking from time to time to ensure they are clean and excess hair between the pads of the feet should be trimmed.
Train these dogs with a consistent but gentle hand. The Drentse Patrijshond makes an easy pupil because it quickly grasp what is expected of it.
