Breed Description


Overview:

The Havanese dog is an ideal family pet that is cheerful and very affectionate. Their hairy nature make them demand lots of grooming. They are happy dogs so everybody and animal is welcomed by them.

There are cheerful, very affectionate, playful, gentle-nature dogs which are highly intelligent, sociable, and sensitive.

The Havanese should not weight more than 6kg (13 ½lb).

 

Temperament:

The Havanese gets along well with all-comers-dogs, cats, or other pets, and they can be fine too with children they do not like to be pestered by them. If this does happen, the dog will tend to become withdraw for quite some time.

 

Coat:

The long-haired coat has no undercoat. Any colour is accepted, with the exception of black which is not recognized by some counties.

 

Care:

The coat needs considerable grooming. These dogs need to be thoroughly brushed and be combed at least twice per week. This is best done with a coarse comb. There is a lotion available to prevent the hair from splitting. Clip excess hair between the pads of the feet. The feet themselves may be clipped to a round from so that do not walk around with “floss” on their feet. This breed does not shed hairs; dead hairs are beast removed with a brush. Check the eyes regularly.

 

Training:

These dogs usually learn quickly and prevent little difficulty in their training.
