Breed Description


The English Cocker Spaniel is a medium-sized, compact dog. The hairs are medium length on the body but short and fine on the head.  The English Cocker Spaniel is an active, good-natured, sporting dog, standing well up at the withers and compactly built.

These are cheerful, lively, gentle and affectionate dogs that intelligent and pliable.

Dogs of this breed can usually get on well with pets, other dogs, and children. Make sure the children are not too rough with the dog because they allow themselves to be used as toys.


The hair is smooth, silken, and medium length. It should never be curly. The most usual colors are russet brown, liver, black, black and tan, white with black, red, or liver patches (with or without tan markings), blue roan, orange roan and liver roan (with or without tan markings).


The Coat of Cocker Spaniels should tangles easily, so it is necessary to brush and comb them thoroughly regularly. Do not overlook the hair between the front and back legs and the hair on the ears. These should be cleaned regularly and excess hair removed.



The Cocker Spaniels is a naturally pliable dog which grasp what you want it to do. Train them with understanding and consistency. Given half a chance by you, the English Cocker Spaniel will lead you a merry dance.
