Overview:
Little lion dog as it is also called the Lowchen breed originated from France. From the middle ages, dogs very like the modern breed of Lowchen appeared in paintings.

Temperament:
A small, intelligent dog with an affectionate and lively disposition, combining all the good qualities of a companion dog. The company of children and other household animals causes no problems of any kind.
Coat:
The coat is long and wavy but should not curl. Lowchen do not have undercoats. Any color is acceptable.
Care:
There is a need to brush and comb the coat regularly to prevent tangles forming. This dog is usually clipped out in the breed-style regardless of whether they are to be shown. The hindquarters, the section of the tail closest to the body, and part of the front legs are close-clipped. The coat does not shed hairs so any dead hairs are removed by brushing.
Training:
They learn quickly and present little difficulty in their training.
Characteristics:
The head is short and broad, the skull flat between the ears, and the body well proportioned. Lowchen are traditionally clipped in the lion clip, leaving a profuse mane over the head and shoulders, and feathering on the feet.
