Overview:

The Dandie Dinmont Terrier is a very affectionate dog that loves to be with its owner and is very loyal to its handler. It is a very intelligent and sensitive dog that is not difficult to train. It has an average demand for exercise and will adapt to its family circumstances.

Temperament:

This is a very sociable breed of dog that usually leaves other dogs alone and acts perfectly with cats and other household animals, provided it has met them when young. They are normally very loving with children and visitors should cause no problem.

 

Coat:

This Terrier has a double-layered coat: the undercoat is soft, the topcoat is hard. Dandie Dinmonts colours are “pepper” which runs from almost black to a light silver-grey and “mustard” (a reddish brown to pale beige).

 

Care:

It needs to be brushed regularly and also be taken to a trimming salon to have the dead hair plucked out once or twice each year. Dogs that are to be shown require additional grooming.

 

Training:

The training of this dog is fortunately not difficult, provided that you make allowance for the fact that it can be stubborn.
